Vinted vs Depop vs eBay: which platform is best for resellers?

Choosing the right platform can double your sales or halve your profit. Each of the big three has distinct strengths depending on what you sell and how you work.

Fees

Vinted charges the seller nothing. You list for free, sell for free and keep the sale price; the buyer pays a protection fee and the postage. Per sale, that makes Vinted the most profitable of the three.

Depop takes a percentage of each sale. eBay's fees depend on whether you sell as a private or a business seller and on the category, and they change; check eBay's current fee page before you list. Whatever the platform takes, log it against the item, or your margin is a guess.

Audience and what sells

Vinted skews heavily towards fashion: clothing, shoes and accessories, bought by people hunting bargains on mid-range brands. If you sell Nike, Zara, Levi's or similar, Vinted is your best bet.

Depop has a younger audience and leans towards streetwear, vintage and Y2K. Unusual or on-trend pieces do better here. Expect more haggling.

eBay has the broadest audience and takes almost anything. Electronics, homeware, parts, collectables: eBay is where non-fashion items sell. Its fees eat into the margin, so track them.

Vinted is the easiest to list on: photo, price, done. The flip side is that it offers sellers almost no tools, so once you have more than a few dozen items, keeping track of what you paid and what you made needs something outside Vinted, which is what Vintify is for.

Depop has a social feel: followers, likes and messages. Building a following helps, but it takes consistent effort.

eBay has the most powerful seller tools, from bulk listing to a mature API. The learning curve is steep and the interface feels dated.

The verdict

For fashion resellers in the UK, Vinted is the clear winner: no seller fees, integrated shipping and a large, active buyer base. Use Depop for streetwear and vintage. Use eBay for non-fashion items or when you need its tools.

Many resellers use more than one, listing the same item on two platforms at different prices and sending it wherever it sells first. If you do, make sure the other listing comes down the same day; Vintify flags an item that has sold on one platform and is still up on the other.
